Auckland, while not the capitol city of NZ, is undoubtedly the events capitol of Aotearoa. Many New Zealand and international events are based in Auckland. As I write, we are halfway through the Rugby World Cup, 2011. Eden Park has held capacity crowds for every game and the central city was host to more than 200,000 hoping to catch the opening game on the big screens. Auckland is vibrant with flags of every competing nation adorning cars and homes.
Another wonderful cultural experience at this point in time is the re-opening exhibition at the Auckland Art gallery. The building alone is enough to capture anyones attention with its eye catching facade and courtyard. Inside are paintings and sculptures dating right back to the 1400s. The current visiting exhibition contains paintings by Picasso, Matisse and other masters. An experience not to be missed.
There are many events happening all over this large city, from music to Arts to Comedy. Something for everyone.
